For several years my staff and I struggled with managing an herbal pharmacy and compounding formulas. In 2008, I entered into a system development endeavor with a patient and together we developed what we have named the Acupuncture Practice Management System™. Now, after 17 years of managing my herbal pharmacy and the school pharmacy at Dragon Rises College of Oriental medicine without the help of a database, I have this wonderful tool which not only manages my inventory but is capable of generating professional labels, receipts, chart files, and tracking batch numbers of even the most complex of formulas, which gives me confidence in my record keeping. I can comply with GMP regulations. This system not only exceeded my expectations, but it is also very user friendly. Six part time assistants in my office have trained themselves this year. My bookkeeper is thrilled with the detail and accuracy of the financial reports. The development effort has been so successful that I now want to share the system with my colleagues.

My experience with the data base is that it very conveniently keeps all of a patient's information in one location (their formulas, patent medicines, treatments, payments). It is fairly easy to learn and makes sense when you are using it. It has dramatically shortened the time it takes to fill a formula. It helps with keeping track of inventory.

Having used the APMS since its early conception, I can personally attest to the functionality, versatility, and effectiveness of the system. Vast improvements have been made to the software making it much more user friendly and requiring minimal training to use. With the upcoming FDA requirements just around the corner for herbal medicine practitioners, I find the APMS invaluable in helping practitioners, schools, and other organizations that deal with herbal prescriptions accurately track inventory, patient data, and the alike. I've been using the database APMS for a year and a half now and I'm not sure how our Clinic ever operated without it. Keeping track of inventory--herbs and supplies--is streamlined and simple. Billing history and record keeping has all been very easy to manage. And perhaps my favorite feature is being able to generate "reports" which tell us the status of our herbal inventory--the herbs that reflect our particular Clinic's usage. That makes ordering more herbs so simple.
